Typeface Comparison 4

This week I am comparing Copperplate and Engravers Roman typefaces.

• There is much greater contrast in modulation in the letterforms of Engravers Roman than Copperplate in which there is very little modulation at all.
  
• Both typefaces are serif fonts but the serifs on Copperplate are very small and subtle whereas on Engravers Roman they are much larger and more obvious.
• Both typefaces do not have lowercase versions of their letterforms (they are all uppercase).
• The shape of the letterforms in Copperplate are much more rigid and angular than in Engravers where they are smoother and more graceful.
  

Typeface Comparison 3

For my third comparison I'll be comparing Univers 55 and Gill Sans.

Similarities:

• Both are Sans Serif Fonts
• Both have similar modulations of low contrast

Differences:

• Gill Sans has a slightly smaller set width
• The bowls in the letterforms of Univers 55 are more oval like, where as the bowls in Gill Sans are more of a segmented circle shape
  

I've been having difficulty scanning in my design work on a regular basis (I don't have access to a scanner at home on a consistent basis), so please bear with me. I will try uploading all of my work as soon as I can.

Typeface Comparison 2

Tonight for Typography class I am comparing Meta and Helvetica.

As before, these are two very similar looking typefaces at first glance. They both have a very rigid and uniform structure to their letterforms. Neither typeface has any serifs (as is typical of San Serif fonts)

Their key differences:

• Meta has a slightly heavier weight.
• Meta has a slightly narrower setwidth.
• The "g" is geometric in the Helvetica, and two-story in Meta.
• Most importantly, Meta employs the use of slight angles in their letterforms. In this case, the stems, spines, tails, and terminals of the letters consistently end at an angle. Helvetica does not; instead they end at horizontal edges.

Very Sick w/ Typeface Comparison

• I've been sick for the last few days and was planning on attending my Monday Comm Design classes anyway, but today I felt 10x worse so I'm just going to post my Typeface Comparison here and get a doctor's note tomorrow. Sorry I can't be there guys, see you Wednesday hopefully.

  Typeface Comparison: Baskerville and BauerBodoni
  
  These are two very similar typefaces (they're both serif letters) , but with some subtle differences.
  
• The modulation in the letterforms of BauerBodoni has greater contrast than the Baskerville.
• Some particular letters have different qualities all-together between the two typefaces; for example, the tail of the 'Q' in Baskerville has more of a swash-like appearance to it than in the BauerBodoni, the counter of the 'J' in Baskerville is larger and more gradual than in BauerBodoni, etc.
• The stem weight of the letters in BauerBodoni are more rigid (more up and down) than in Baskerville in which they are more curved and gradual in their modulation.
